Installation is a simple process. Simply follow the steps outlined below.

Special Caution PocketPC 2002.

The PdaBrew Guide for PocketPC 2002 is compatible with any of the ChoiceWay City Guides version 4.01 or newer. Unfortunately, the PdaBrew Guide is not compatible with the original ChoiceWay London Guide or the original London Demo program for PocketPC. The original London guide version is shown as 2.2C on the starting page of the London Guide. The demo is shown as ver 2.2D. If you have either the London ver 2.2C guide or the demo program on you PocketPC you must remove the program before you install the PdaBrew Guide. Users of the ChoiceWay London Guide can obtain a free update to the new version from the ChoiceWay website. After you delete the old London Guide you can install the PdaBrew Guide or the updated London guide in any order.

System Requirements:

The PdaBrew Guide & ChoiceWay City Guides for PocketPC requires a PocketPC 2002 or PocketPC 2003 Device, and a Windows PC running Microsoft ActiveSync with appropriate docking cradle or cable for the handheld device.

For normal installation in main memory, your PocketPC must have about 2 MB free memory to install the PdaBrew Guide. If the main memory is full, the installer will give you an option to select a "Storage Card" for installation. If you select a storage card, the program will be installed directly to the storage card.

Caution: If you install the guide on a Storage Card, initial startup will be very slow. It may take more than a minute and the screen of the PocketPC may be blank as though nothing is happening. After starting the program from a storage card, performance will be normal unless the main memory is very full. If the main memory is nearly full and you run the guide from a Storage Card, the program may function very slowly.

Installation:
  1. This step applies to the PocketPC 2002 only. Go on to step 2 if you have a pocket PC 2003. If you previously installed the original London Guide (ver 2.2C) or the London demo, you MUST remove it before you install the PdaBrew Guide. Otherwise you will need to re-install the PdaBrew Guide after the London guide is removed. A free update for the London Guide is available here.
  2. Using the Windows Explorer on your desktop PC, locate the downloaded self extracting archive file -- pdabrew.exe or pdabrew3.exe.
  3. Double click on the file name to extract the install files. Unless you specify a different folder (directory), the extracted files will be saved in the folder C:\ChoiceWay Guides\pdabrew or C:\ChoiceWay Guides\pdabrew3.
  4. Place your PocketPC in the cradle or connect via a cable to your desktop system. Ensure that Microsoft ActiveSync is running and the PocketPC is "connected".
  5. Using the Windows Explorer on your desktop PC, locate the install program "PdaBrewInstall.exe" (PocketPC 2002) or "PdaBrew3Install.exe" (PocketPC 2003) and double click on the file name to begin the installation.
  6. This will start the installation process and display a short text file. Carefully review the install instructions and click "Next" to continue.
  7. When the software license agreement is displayed, select "I accept the terms in the license agreement" and click "Finish" to continue.
  8. The install program will then read information from your PocketPC. You will be asked if you want to Install "ChoiceWay PdaBrew" using the default install directory? You MUST click "Yes" and the installer will begin copying files to the PocketPC. This may take a few minutes.
  9. After the files are copied to the PocketPC, check the PocketPC screen for more instructions. The installation may need to update several Microsoft system files on your PocketPC. If you are asked whether you want to replace an existing file, you should click "Yes To All" to complete the update process.
  10. End of installation. To run the program on your PocketPC, select "Start" (upper left corner of screen, then select "Programs", then select "PdaBrew" or "PdaBrew3".
